Eye Care That Comes to You — Because It Should
Our Story
After more than 20 years working in private optometry practice, I heard the same story again and again from families sitting across from me.
Their mother had not had an eye exam in three years. Their father's glasses were outdated but getting him to an appointment was impossible. A parent in a wheelchair, in a retirement home, unable to travel — and vision care simply falling through the cracks.
These were not isolated cases. They were the norm. Seniors across Ontario were missing essential eye care not because they did not want it, but because the system was not designed with them in mind. Long waits, transportation barriers, mobility challenges, and the sheer exhaustion of coordinating off-site medical appointments meant that eye health was consistently deprioritized.
I heard these stories so often that I could not ignore them anymore.
Why I Started Viewpoint Vision Care
After relocating from Toronto to Hamilton, I made a decision to do something about it. I founded Viewpoint Vision Care with one clear purpose — to bring professional, compassionate eye care directly to the people who need it most and can access it least.
Mobile optometry was not a new concept, but doing it properly — with the right equipment, the right clinical standards, and genuine compassion for each person — was the commitment I made from day one. We use specialty mobile equipment designed to work in any setting and any position — whether a person is seated in a wheelchair, lying in their bed, or has limited ability to communicate.
We understand that many individuals in long term care and retirement communities live with dementia or conditions that affect their ability to communicate. When performing an eye examination for non-verbal individuals or those living with dementia, we place greater reliance on objective testing methods. This ensures that every person who cannot communicate accurately still receives the same thorough and accurate examination as anyone else.
Since then, Viewpoint Vision Care has grown into a trusted mobile eye care service for retirement communities, long term care homes, and individuals across Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Brantford, Ancaster and the GTA.
What Drives Us Every Day
Every clinic day we see individuals who have been waiting far too long for an updated prescription. We see families relieved that their loved one finally received a thorough eye examination without the stress of travel. We see care staff grateful for a service that fits into their community's routine rather than disrupting it.
Clear vision changes everything. It affects safety, independence, confidence, and quality of life. For a senior in a retirement home, a properly fitted pair of glasses can mean the difference between reading comfortably, recognizing a grandchild's face, or navigating a hallway safely.
That is what we show up for.
Our Commitment to You
At Viewpoint Vision Care, every person who receives care from us is treated as an individual — not a number, not a room, and not a diagnosis. We take the time to listen, to understand, and to provide care that reflects each person's unique needs and circumstances.
Viewpoint Vision Care provides comprehensive 10-step mobile eye examinations using portable diagnostic equipment — the same thorough examination you would receive in a traditional clinic, delivered in the comfort of their own home or community, on their terms and at their pace.
Our Optician assists with frame selection, lens recommendations, fittings, and bedside delivery of completed eyewear. We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers, ODSP and NIHB, and we handle all the paperwork so each person and their family does not have to.
We work closely with retirement community staff, families, and care teams to make scheduling simple and communication clear.
